Rolex is defined by the iconic models in its catalog, yet at the same time it's a catalog of bread-and-butter watches, and none better represents that ethos than the Datejust.
In 2016, Rolex introduced the ref. 126303, at the time, updating the two-tone 41mm Datejust option to be mechanically and aesthetically in-line with trends occurring across its broader catalog. At its core, the watch is a modernized version of the classic Datejust formula, featuring the tried-and-true, silhouette with some subtle contemporary touches to distinguish it.
Most importantly, the 126303 features one of Rolex's first uses of its now current generation time-and-date movement in its flagship 41mm Datejust offerings. The automatic movement, dubbed the caliber 3235, notably maintains a superlative chronometer rating (accurate to +/-2 seconds per day) alongside a solid 70-hour power reserve, the result being a major technological advancement for the daily wearer from the previous caliber 3135 and its 48-hours of reserve. These mechanical upgrades are in-part due to a maximization of efficiency on account of some key Rolex technologies, including a patented Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock protection system.
Outside of its upgraded movement, the 126303 is a familiar modern two-tone Datejust, complete with a touch of elegance via its smooth 18k yellow gold bezel, matching bracelet, an iconic Oyster case shape, and a finely-executed dial accentuated with a cyclops window over its date aperture. As a result of its precious metal touches, the watch undoubtedly has classic formal appeal. Yet despite its elegant style, with a primarily steel case construction, larger 41mm diameter, and 100-meter water resistance, its sportiness for day-to-day is ensured, in-effect helping the 126303 continue the tradition of the Datejust being one of the best daily wearers around.
